Creatively Frugal Splurges
When you are in the mood to treat yourself or your family to something special, how do you splurge without spending too much?

"We occasionally splurge by eating out and using a coupon from our Entertainment book or doing a mystery shop for a local restaurant. To check out different mystery shopping companies go to www.volition.com and there is a huge list of companies, and it's all free." ~ Suzie

"I am amazed, quite often, that if I just pray about a want or desire of my heart, that the Lord blesses me with it. I do not have to splurge very often because by God's never-ending grace, these things that I desire show up in
local thrift stores of throug
h friends, etc. One of my favorite quotes is, 'God works for those who wait for him.' Sometimes I have to be patient for these things, but God is always faithful." ~ Tami in WA. State

"When I feel the need to spend but the budget doesn't allow it, I stop off at the local dollar store. I can buy a bunch of treats for myself and the family. For $20, I feel like I got a lot but didn't spend much." ~ Julie

"We have a couple of 'splurges' a year, though we live on a tight budget.  The only way to do so is to PLAN them! We not only plan for them, we budget for them as well. A few dollars a pay period set aside can add up rather quickly. And if you think a little bit doesn't add up, just try putting aside $2 here and a handful of change there.  Next thing you know you've got money for a splurge." ~ Terri C

"We enjoy treating our family to a clean family movie at the Dollar Theater. Also, we joined a program at Hollywood Video that allows you to rent almost any movie (except for brand-new releases) for $10 the first month and $15 per month thereafter. This has helped us provide some type of treat or
reward for our three children without much cost.

Also, I really enjoy coffee drinks. I have experimented with making some of my own at home. This really works well with iced coffee in the summer. It is only a fraction of the price of one from Starbuck's.

Giving myself a manicure or pedicure is a nice treat. I look forward to reading other responses." ~ Anonymous
