"As part of the Alumni
program at the local college I graduated from, I am entitled to a
library card for free. I can take my 12-year-old to the library
where she can do research and I can take books out for study using
my library card. I also can access the online databases from home.
At this college the public can pay a yearly fee to have access to
the library's resources." ~ Carrie, Ontario Canada
"While we do not homeschool our six
children, I have supplemented their educations where I feel the
public system is lacking. There are many, many ways to teach and I
have spent varying degrees of money on various resources. The
most economical and useful solution I have is to find a book which
offers many suggestions/ideas. One book that contains many ideas is
'Jelly Bean Connections - Making Spelling Fun,' by Thea R. Morris.
This book contains many game ideas (with master copies so you
can photocopy the game boards). At the back there is an index so
that you can find a variety of games for the skill you are working
on -- parts of speech, prefixes, end sounds, long vowels, etc. In
terms of math concepts, I found a very good series of books, 'Math
Games for Kids Using Cards and Dice (Box cars and one-eyed Jacks)'.
This one book has given me many, many games to play with the kids,
depending on which math concept I am trying to reinforce.
These two books I have used again and again with my children."
